2D vs 3D

You have made two, 2d games this semester and are now getting a taste of 3d game design by making a maze in the UDK editor. In your opinion, how is the 3d environment better or worse for making an engaging game? The obvious answer is that 3D gives you yet another dimension to explore in games but more is not always better. As you finish creating your maze does the 3D environment spur more original game ideas for you, or would you rather go back to 2D to create your game?
